Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,

Greetings in Jesus’ Name from Mexico City! We are still unpacking since we moved into our apartment. Most of everything was moldy from being stored & closed up, and we had to throw some things away. The other things we have to wash, disinfect and sanitize.  We like our apartment and know God miraculously provided this specific apartment for several reasons. One reason is its location in a needy area where we would like to start a church. The other reason is because our apartment is in a big complex, and every apartment has a designated parking place for two small cars side by side. Our apartment is the only apartment available that has two parking spots in linear fashion (e.g. one in front and the other behind, making one double long spot). That is the only apartment/spot where our long van would fit. It is not a coincidence; it is a provision and blessing from God.

I celebrated my birthday in August, and the church was kind to have a party with cake and gifts. We have seen several people saved over the last couple of months knocking doors, in the open-air markets and at church. One of them is a young man named Jonathan that I met one Saturday. I gave him a gospel tract, and he began to read it immediately. I interrupted him and asked him if I could explain what he was reading. He said yes, so I began to witness to him and showed him what the Bible said about sin & salvation. Afterwards, he bowed his head and prayed, trusting Christ as Savior. He then asked how he could get to our church, and I explained about our bus route in that area. The next morning (Sunday), Jonathan was calling the driver for that route making sure he was coming to pick him up. Another example is a young man named Cesar. He has come every Sunday morning for several weeks, hearing the gospel. At the end of one sermon during the invitation, he raised his hand indicating he wanted to know more about salvation but left before anyone could speak with him. The next Sunday I arrived early to church, and Cesar was sitting on the curb, waiting for the church to open. I let him in, and I immediately started witnessing to him. After hearing the gospel, Cesar trusted Christ as his Savior. Our other church ministries are going well, too. Our church celebrated its 11th Anniversary on Sunday, September 13th and there were lots of first-time visitors. That day we also celebrated Mexico’s Independence Day, making it an extra special church service with members dressed in traditional Mexican attire.  We had a “best dressed” contest.  We also had a salsa contest, lots of good Mexican food and piñatas.  We had two baby dedications that day, too. A young man from Venezuela named Jesús came to church, heard the gospel about JESUS, got saved and received a Bible.

We appreciate your prayers for Mary’s mom, Marie, and the Crawford family. Marie passed away on Sunday night, August 30th.  We bought plane tickets and were able to be there before she passed away, and we were there with her and the family when she passed away. Marie’s last words to Mary were very special. Marie said to Mary, “Don’t ever stop sharing the gospel with others like you did with your dad when he got saved after you witnessed to him.” God’s commission to be witnesses is all we need, but how special to hear my mother-in-law’s last words to Mary as a charge, confirming God’s charge to us. Obviously, all Christians have that charge and commission to preach the gospel.
