Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter June 1, 2026 (Apr. ’26 – May ‘26)

Posted on June 3rd 2026

Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,
June 1, 2026 (Apr. – May ‘26)

Greetings in Jesus’ Name! We want to start by saying thank you all for your prayers & support. We have only four meetings left in the next two weeks before we head back to Mexico City. We will fly there to find a new apartment. We are excited to get back, but we do ask for your prayers for the transition. We also ask for your prayers for safety since things were very problematic there when we finished our last term last year. You may remember I was jailed and our van was impounded for two months, then our assistant was jailed. We’ve had threats sent to us from corrupt police and others. Our lawyers recommend a restraining order though it is not believed that it will help much. We continue to receive texts from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City about protests and violence against Americans. It is alleged that the U.S. CIA conducted a covert operation where Francisco Beltrán, alias “El Payín,” a suspected operator for the Sinaloa Cartel was killed in March just 45 minutes from our church in Mexico. In April, two U.S. Embassy workers were killed in northern Mexico. The next day, just an hour north of us in Mexico, a Canadian lady was shot & killed and six Americans were injured at the pyramids where we often take our visitors. Of course, other than the cartel, we often face dangers from gangs and delinquents, not to mention problems from poor sanitation, pollution, and our daily active volcano 39 miles from our church, as well as occasional earthquakes. It may sound a bit challenging, but God continues to do a great work in Mexico City, and we are looking so forward to getting back “home” there to continue to serve. Please pray for our drive back in a few weeks. We have to get our Mexican van ready for the trip, but pray it runs well and for our safety. I will send an email reminder shortly before.

Every meeting is a blessing for us as missionaries, but it was extra special to be at our home church’s (First Baptist Church of Kenmore, in Akron, Ohio) Mission Conference in April. While on furlough, we’ve continued to try to be a witness wherever we go and have shared the gospel with many, seeing some saved. We don’t always mention it, but I want to share the details to one such encounter while out knocking doors recently. Mary & I met 23-year-old Quimar. When I asked him if he were to die that day, was he 100% sure he would go to heaven, he said, “No.” As I witnessed to him, I asked if he would like to know how he could be sure and he said, “Yes.” He then said he wanted to get saved and did. I noticed a necklace around his neck with a big picture of someone on it. After Quimar got saved, he said, “I must share something with you. Your timing here today was perfect.” He said, “I was in a car wreck two weeks ago with my cousin and he died.” The picture in the necklace was of his cousin. He said, “If I would have died then, I wouldn’t have been ready to face God, but now I am. Thanks.” He gave me a hug, then we took a picture together. Please pray for the salvation of a 26-year-old young man named David from Mexico that I witnessed to for over an hour two weeks ago. After sharing the gospel, he bowed his head and said, “OK, I agree. What do I need to do to be saved?” He seemed so close to being saved and said, “This is so odd and I feel God sent you to me to tell me the truth.” Then he asked, “Can I have your phone number to stay in touch about this?” to which obviously I agreed. My experience in cases like this, however, when someone asks for your phone number to stay in contact to talk more about the gospel is often a kind way to end the conversation. But David texted me that night, then the next day, then the following day and has stayed in touch since, even again yesterday. Pray he gets saved soon.

Our church in Mexico, Hope Baptist Church, continues to do well. People are still getting saved at church services and outside church, as they knock doors & witness in the open-air markets. A young boy named Gohan got saved about six years ago. He was six years old at the time when Mary led him to the Lord. Gohan’s two sisters and brother got saved, too, at our church over the years and their mom was saved at our church about 11 years ago. They all attended church faithfully until 2020 when the mom stopped attending and pulled the children out of church. Gohan sadly started taking drugs last year but just last month, Pastor Alvaro began to talk with him, helping and discipling him. He told Alvaro he remembered when Mary led him to Christ but not being in church, he didn’t grow spiritually. Gohan made the decision last month to start reading the Bible daily and to attend church again regularly. He also has been going soul-winning with the church weekly. Well, thanks for everything. We are praying for you all, too. We are “…your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5.  Attached are some photos.
