Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter October 1, 2024 (Aug. – Sep. ‘24)
Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,
October 1, 2024 (Aug. – Sep. ’24)
Greetings in Jesus’ Name from Mexico City. We’ve had a great two months here since we sent out our last prayer letter. We’ve seen people saved in church; saved in the open-air markets; saved door-to-door and saved in the drug & alcohol rebab. center. We had two church groups visit us from different supporting churches in Ohio. One visited us in August and helped with VBS. The other visited us in September and helped during our church’s 9th anniversary and Mexico’s Independence Day. Both church groups were used greatly by God to help draw people to hear the gospel through the VBS and music, resulting in much spiritual fruit. We began working for the first time with the boys’ orphanage. On our first visit we took them backpacks with school supplies and had pizza & cake. On second visit Mary began teaching them music, but we also were able to share personal testimonies about salvation. We hope soon to see these young boys & teenagers come to know Christ as Savior, as has been the case in the girls’ orphanage. It is interesting that some of the boys and girls in the two orphanages are brothers & sisters. While at the boys’ orphanage, the director asked, “Are you all Catholics”? To which I replied “No. We are Christians.” She then said, “I am Jewish. What do Christians believe?” What an open door. We promised her we would talk to her more about what a Christian is according to the Bible. Mary then gave her some bilingual gospel literature in Hebrew and Spanish. What a blessing. We’ve also been able to share Scripture with our Jewish doctor, and other Jews. Please pray for Jews here to accept Jesus as their Messiah and Lord.
Our VBS went really well in August, with many children and adults saved. We had a total of 55 first-time visitors at church Wednesday night and Sunday during that week. The week of our church anniversary and Independence Day was also very fruitful. We have had a couple missionaries present their ministries the last two months. Our Mission Conference is this month. The Fall semester of our Bible Institute just began. We have lots of neat testimonies of people getting saved. I wish I had room to share them all, but due to space, I can only share a couple. Recently I met 16-year-old Beto while out knocking doors. He saw me putting gospel tracts in the doors where no one answered and he approached me, asking for a tract. I gave one to him, and he immediately sat down and began to read it, as I began to talk to someone. I then continued down the street and Beto came to me and said, “I think I understand what this [tract] is saying, but can you explain it to me.” I began to witness to him, and after sharing the gospel, he told me he wanted to be saved, so he then prayed, asking Jesus to save him. Another day while knocking doors, I met 20-year-old Manuel. He is from Venezuela. As I began to witness to him, he told me that he had heard some of what I was saying from a few other Venezuelans in the area who had attended our church. He told me, “A couple of my friends told me they got saved at your church.” After sharing the gospel with Manuel, he told me “I want to get saved” and he trusted Christ.
Please pray for souls to continue to be saved. Pray also for our health & safety. Crime and gang & cartel violence is so bad that the judicial system here recently made the recommendation for safety reasons to allow judges to wear full face masks during the trials to protect their identity. We had a 5.6 earthquake recently. We have also had lots of rain causing severe flooding, with many landslides. In closing, I want to thank you all for your prayers, support and encouragement. Speaking of support, if you are sending our support to the physical address of our home church, the First Baptist Church of Kenmore, we would ask that you begin sending it to their P.O. Box. Our church recently had some mail stolen from the mailbox used for the physical address. Continue to write and mail support checks to our home church, but please send it to P.O. Box 3829, Akron, Ohio 44314-0829. In the memo block you can still write “Wallace’s/Mexico City Missions” or something to that affect. We sure appreciate you all, and we pray for you, too. If the Lord tarries, maybe we can see many of you during our upcoming furlough starting the latter half of next year. Mary will be the guest speaker later this month at a ladies’ conference in one of our supporting churches in northwest Ohio, Saturday 12. Let us know if you know of someone who has interest in attending, and we can send you the details. Mary will also be one of the guest speakers at a ladies’ conference in Ohio’s Amish country at the end of Febuary next year. Thanks for everything. We are “…your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5.
