Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter June 1, 2024 (Apr. – May. ‘24)
Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,
June 1, 2024 (Apr. – May ‘24)
Greetings in Jesus’ Name from Mexico City! Things are going well here. Thanks for your prayers and support. We took our teens to a youth conference in April. It was a big help to them spiritually and fun, too. A young 6-year-old boy in our church named Mateo has become a real witness for Christ. Both his parents abandoned him, but he comes to church regularly with others from his family. Recently he had the attention of all his classmates in public school and was witnessing to them all as a group. It was in between classes and the teacher came over and asked him what he was telling the others. He told her that he was telling them that only Jesus saves and without Jesus, they will go to Hell, but with Jesus, they can go to Heaven. He then asked the teacher, “And you; is Jesus your Savior? If not, you won’t go to Heaven.” Mary visited a Jewish lady recently and was able to give her a New Testament in Spanish and Hebrew. In return, the lady gave Mary a pendant from Jerusalem. Her daughter is in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and is involved in the Hamas conflict. We trust that in future meetings, Mary might be able to introduce her to the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, using that New Testament. I am designing a new gospel tract called “Believe the Prophets” to share with the Jews here that show the plan of salvation from the Old Testament. We met an old Jewish man named Eli a few months ago and had a long talk with him about 20 minutes from home where many Jews live. As we approached an older Jewish man from behind last month, Mary said “That’s Eli.” Sure enough, it was. Out of the many, many people here in Mexico City and the many Jews here, the Lord brought us across his path again. We said hello and he remembered us. Mary was wearing the Israel pendant on a chain necklace and when Eli saw it, he said in Spanish “You two are special to me.” Then he put his hand on Mary’s head and prayed a blessing upon her in Hebrew. He then had to leave, but I really hope we get another opportunity to see him and witness more to him.
I love witnessing to the Mexican people here because in general, they are not in a hurry, they are generally interested and they are honest when they are asked a question. Mary was witnessing to a lady named Maria recently during the week when Maria told Mary to sit down as she was very interested. After sitting beside Maria for some time sharing the gospel, Maria trusted Christ as Savior. One Saturday last month I spent much time talking to Diego while out knocking doors. He was a very smart young man in his mid-20s, but he was surprised after being confronted with the truths of the Bible. He asked many questions, and after witnessing to him for a while, I sensed he might be close to ready to get saved. Then his friend showed up, but Diego told him to come back later because, he said, “We are talking about something very important, and I don’t want to be interrupted.” A few minutes later, Diego after hearing the gospel, trusted Christ as his Savior. We continue to see people not only saved but baptized and attend our church. Last month Mexico celebrated the holiday “Day of the Child.” We held a special event at a park for this day one Saturday. We then invited those and more to a special church service that night. All together we had many saved that day and 17 baptized. Many came back the following day for our Sunday church services. A lady in our church named Trinidad recently told me her husband’s health was failing and for that reason he couldn’t come to church anymore. He, Carlos, was saved at our church recently. Trinidad told me that Carlos wanted to get baptized but couldn’t sit through a church service to wait for the baptism, so we decided to do it as a single event on a Saturday. She then told me they had lived together for a very long time but were not married. So, the following week we had Carlos’ baptism, then I performed a small wedding ceremony for them. At the moment, we have a family from a supporting church visiting us. We had a big day with them and the orphans yesterday. Today we are having a one-day Bible Club.
We had Covid real bad a couple of weeks ago, but at the moment we are doing good. But please keep praying for our health & safety. I got bit by a dog recently while knocking doors. A Sunday school teacher in our church named Nancy was recently kidnapped by a taxi driver. He held her captive in his car for a long time while he was driving her somewhere. Thankfully in a curve, she jumped out & ran, only suffering minor injuries. Mary & I plan to make a trip to the Texas border on Thursday (June 6th) to see our doctors, as well as to pick up tracts, Bibles and other ministry supplies. Please pray for this long trip, for safety and for our van to run well. We sure appreciate you all very much. Thanks for everything! We are “…your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5
