Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter – December 2007 and January 2008

Posted on January 2nd 2008

Pastors, Church Families, Friends & Family:

Just a few days ago, on February 12th, a 6.4 earthquake hit Mexico and the effects caused the buildings of Mexico City to sway. I spoke with our missionary friends there and they assured me that they, their churches and their congregations were all safe. Mexico City has a history of seismic activity. There is also an active volcano just outside the city area.

The Bible says in Isaiah 5:14, “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth…” I have heard preachers say, referring to this verse, that when the earth quakes, Hell is making room for more lost sinners. What a sobering thought. The Bible is full of such references to earthquakes, however. Numbers 16: 30 says, “But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.” Good things come from earthquakes, too. In Matthew 27 and 28, at the death of Jesus “…the veil of the temple was rent in twain…” and after the earthquake, the proof of our risen Saviour was evident when the stone to the tomb “…rolled back…from the door.” The blessing is that salvation is available to all, even in a troubled world and a trembling earth. After an earthquake in Acts 16:26, the best question was asked by a man to Paul in verse 30, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” The greatest answer was then given by Paul in verse 31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

Oh how we pray for the souls in Mexico, as well as those around the world to ask this question and receive answer, Jesus. My pastor often says, Jesus does not have the answer (i.e., for salvation, life’s trials, etc.), HE IS THE ANSWER! We are excited to return to Mexico City to deliver the good news of the Gospel, the answer so needed in that area of religion and poverty.

As another year has ended and a new one begun, we are reminded of how quickly time passes (James 4:14). Ephesians 5:16 says, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil”. Now more than ever before, we Christians need to maximize the use of our time on eternal things. (Colossians 3:2). Romans 13:11 says, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

It’s a blessing being in different churches every service, meeting new brethren in Christ. We have seen some souls saved along the way and even a neighborhood boy, Andrew, led to the Lord just over a week ago by our daughter, Hannah, at home.

We are so very thankful for all those that continue to support us through prayer, encouragement and financially. We are appreciative of those who have recently taken us on for support. We are glad to have more praying friends too, that we have met along the deputation trail. Please continue to pray for our travel safety, our vehicle (mechanically), our health, and for God to bless our meetings, as well as for our family to be a blessing. We’ll be praying for you too.

Well, I must close. Bye for now.
