Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter August 1, 2024 (Jun. – Jul. ‘24)
Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,
August 1, 2024 (Jun. – Jul ‘24)
Greetings in Jesus’ Name from Mexico City. It was a blessing in June to have the Kojima Family here. They are from a supporting church in Ohio, and helped us with a Bible Club about science. There were several saved. The family, being musicians, played several times in open-air markets and parks, drawing people’s attention, then allowing us to witness to them. Brother Kojima gave his testimony on a Wednesday night. A lady named Guadalupe received one of our tracts. She shared it with her son, Enrique, and grandson, Brian. Seeing our address on the back, they came to our church. After hearing Brother Jun’s testimony and the gospel, the two men got saved. The Kojima Family also helped us put on a recital at the orphanage and well as a science presentation. The Kojima’s continue to be a blessing to our church as the daughters now teach our violinists by live video on Sundays between services. After the Kojimas left, Mary & I made a quick trip to the Texas border to see our US doctors and pick up Bibles & tracts. While there, I preached all day on Sunday at a church while Mary spoke to a ladies’ group about missions. After we arrived back in Mexico, Mary’s elderly mom requested her presence to help and bought her a plane ticket for a week there. We have many interesting stories of people recently saved here but only have room for a few. I met Moises while knocking doors several Saturdays ago. He got saved and came to church the next day on Sunday. I then presented him a Bible. Pastor Alvaro was teaching the adult Sunday school class and I sat on the front row. Just after the class started, Moises came up front and asked me if he could sit with me. He then said, “I don’t know the Bible very well, but I intend to learn it now that I am saved. But can you help me find the texts for the Sunday school class?” What a blessing it was to me to help Moises find each Bible verse used in the class. After Sunday school he said, “Thank you for helping me get saved yesterday and thanks for your help today.” Moises hopes to bring his wife and children soon. One Wednesday recently while out knocking doors, a lady watched me putting gospel tracts in a few doors where no one answered. Her name is Clara and she approached me & asked if she could have a gospel tract. After giving it to her, I began to witness to her. She was very interested, asking me some questions and answering mine. Then after hearing the gospel, she accepted Christ as Savior. That same day Pastor Alvaro met a lady named Vivian from Venezuela. She said she knew of many Venezuelans who had visited our church and she wondered what went on in our church and why the others were so positive about it. Alvaro then witnessed to her and she, too, got saved. There are many other neat stories like those from the last two months.
Psalm 68:5 says God is a Father to the fatherless and we have seen that recently. Most importantly, we have seen most of the girls saved in the orphanage where we minister. We have also seen God bless the girls materially. In June, we gave them some nice used clothes sent by a few of our supporting churches. Then, someone bought each one a new dress for their music recital with Mary. In the 13 years that we have worked with them, I never recall them getting new clothes, much less picking it out themselves, as they did with Mary. A few weeks ago, a family sent money to get the girls backpacks and school supplies for Fall. Two weeks ago, a supporting church sent each girl money to go with us to have a good time. So we went out for fast food together; they then each bought a little something with spending money before going to an indoor fun park, and ended the day with icecream. Now, the door has opened for the boys orphanage and we should start there in early August. Two Saturdays ago we were out as a church knocking doors in a very rough area where there were altars to Santa Muerte, the Patron Saint of Death, worshipped by the cartel and others. Two doors down from one altar, I met Juan Antonio after I knocked his door. As I began to witness to him, he admitted that he was involved with Santa Muerte. But after sharing the gospel with him, he trusted Christ as his Savior. Thanks for your prayers for Mary and her heart & facial numbness. After doctors’ visits & tests, she is feeling better. A couple weeks ago our teens went to a youth conference. Last week some from our church went to a music camp. Next week we have a group from a supporting church visiting for a week. In closing, we would like to thank you all for your prayers and support. We plan to start our next furlough in less than 12 months, and we will start making plans soon. We hope to leave Mexico in July 2025, Lord willing, to go to Texas to find a furlough vehicle, then travel to Alabama to see our parents before heading to the Ohio where our home church is, and the states surrounding Ohio, where are many of our supporting churches. Thanks for everything. We are “…your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5.
