Wallace’s Missionary Prayer Letter – April and May 2008
Pastors, Church Families, Friends & Family:
Romans 10:13-15 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” What a great promise that whoever calls upon Jesus for salvation can be saved. What a blessing that salvation is not by works nor conditional. In this passage, however, we see the process of the gospel being sent and received. Before a person can be saved, they have to call upon Jesus, but before they call, they have to believe in Him. Before a person can believe, they have to hear and before that, there has to be a faithful preacher (or soul-winner) to deliver the gospel. What an honor we all have as Christians to be sent to proclaim the great tidings of good news so the lost can hear, believe, call and be saved.
Charles Spurgeon once said, “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for.” Oh how we need to continue to have and maintain the sense of determination for souls as those great Christians before us did, especially in these last days in which we are now living.
As we continue on the deputation trail, we praise the Lord for the churches we have been in recently and for the many Christians we have met along the way. We also praise the Lord for the souls we have seen saved as we have knocked on doors and witnessed as we go.
Recently, I knocked on a door and a 23-year-old young man named Jeremy answered the door. As I asked him if he ever considered what happens after death, he replied, “Never before until this week.” Jeremy’s mom became ill the week before and she was in poor health at the hospital without a good prognosis. As I began to talk to him about his sin, judgment and Hell, he pled for Jesus to forgive him and save him, and was born again. Hallelujah! The following week, I was with my son, Joseph and we met an 81-year-old lady named Polly. She was trusting in her goodness to get her to heaven, but she allowed Joseph show her in the scripture how works can’t save, and she repented and trusted Christ. Amen! About a week later, while talking to a 34-year-old lady named Julie, she was surprised to see in God’s word that her religion couldn’t save her and she put her faith in Christ for salvation. Praise the Lord! I even had the privilege to see a missionary’s son come forward at a recent mission conference after I preached, and trusted the Lord as his Savior. Glory to God!
